Our last wedding had everything to offer. We started off with blue sky and nearly 30 degrees, already thinking of what to do during our “First Look” at the lake of Albert Park, portraits at the beach and outdoor ceremony. Anyway, we can’t change weather, so we headed off to our bride Karen. From there Kate drove to St Kilda’s hotel The Blackman for the groom’s preparation. The hotel was near Albert Park, from where we had a beautiful view over the lake and skyline of Melbourne. Once Kate arrived, the boys where still chilled in the restaurant eating lunch, a great chance to get to know all the the groomsmen. And what a bunch of boys they were. So much fun to have around. One funnier than the other. We did manage to get the boys in time ready and Kate was able to fit all four in our car and drove them in time to the meeting point for the First Look. Karen and Brendon chose to do this, in order to take the portraits before the ceremony, which gave them more time afterwards to stay with their families and friends and had nothing to worry about anymore. So a First Look can have many advantages. So as well this time, as we started with amazing weather, just getting the clouds in time and a few drops, just before Karen and her bridesmaids arrived in a beautiful blue VW Kombi. Both very nervous, it was so cute to watch their expressions when they saw each other for the first time! That was exactly what a First Look is all about! Adding this precious moment to your wedding day!
After giving them a moment to enjoy themselves, we started with portrait and bridal party photos at the lake, before we headed off to drive to Port Melbourne. Shortly after we arrived at the beach, it started tripping and the rolling thunder could be heard in the distance. We were just able to get a couple of portraits for the couple, before the rain hit us. We decided to move before it came down strong and used this time to drive to South Melbourne Town Hall, with the hope, that the thunderstorm will pass quickly. It was raining so strong, that we couldn’t even get out of the car to get our umbrellas from the back. I think we never had such a rain on a wedding day during an important moment. In some cultures, rain on your wedding day brings luck. So that means, Karen & Brendon would have more luck than a lifetime could hold for them, with the amount of rain coming down. After a while, we decided to leave the spot unused and return to the hotel. In the cover of the hotel, we took a few more photos and left afterwards for the venue “The Willows”, where ceremony and reception was held and was just around the corner.
The couple planned an outdoor ceremony, but with the rain holding on, it had to be moved indoors, in the room, which is usually used as dance floor. It was a bit tight, but we managed to get a few photos during the fun filled ceremony, with a couple which is so visibly in love! After the ceremony, the couple enjoyed the reception with some great food and music and a lot of dancing. We couldn’t have asked for a better couple, to take it all in as it happened, not worried about the rain. We are after all very lucky with the couples that chose us and we are very grateful for this.
